Saturday Night Live didn’t hold anything back this past weekend when they spoofed the coverage that Fox News has been giving to the migrant caravan. This comedic bit underscores the larger problem of just how lopsided and dishonest the reporting at Fox News has become, and they appear to hit new lows every week which many of us didn’t even think was possible. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

Transcript:

This past weekend, Saturday Night Live decided to take on Fox News over their coverage of the alleged migrant caravan that Fox wants their viewers to believe is right outside their door right now, waiting to do them harm. He is SNL’s take on Fox News coverage of this issue.

Kate McKinnon:
Now as we said, thousands of troops are heading to the border, the goal is to have five armed soldiers for every one shoeless immigrant child. Trump is calling it Operation Eagle with a Huge Dong. [crosstalk] insider look as former Milwaukee sheriff and Trump cheerleader David Clarke. Sheriff, how are you?

Kenan Thompson:
Unpopular among my own people.

Kate McKinnon:
And what is your take on the caravan?

Kenan Thompson:
Well the situation is urgent Laura. The caravan is only 800 miles from our border. If these immigrants walk at a normal pace of 300 miles a day, they could be here in time to vote on election day.

Kate McKinnon:
And are they moving that quickly?

Kenan Thompson:
Well let’s just take a look at this aerial footage of the caravan.

Kate McKinnon:
My god, and those are humans?

Kenan Thompson:
Basically, yeah. We’ve also learned that all the women in the caravan are more than nine months pregnant, and they’re holding the babies in until the exact moment when they cross over the border. And then they’re gonna literally drop anchor, and the babies, get this, are pregnant.

Kate McKinnon:
And sheriff, I do have to press you on this. What are your sources?

Kenan Thompson:
The crows from Dumbo.

Kate McKinnon:
[crosstalk] with me, thank you sheriff Clarke.

You know what’s really scary about that clip, is that this isn’t too far off from how Fox News has been reacting to news of this alleged caravan. We learned on Sunday that the Pentagon itself had told the President that this caravan poses no threat at all to the United States, and very few, if any people in this caravan are even going to make it to the United States. And obviously more importantly, coming to the United States to seek asylum is perfectly legal. And yet, Fox News along with this administration has pushed this narrative that these are somehow dangerous, angry people coming to the United States to take us over, to do away with our culture as Fox news has said. And so this was a very pertinent skit that SNL pulled off and they did it beautifully and hilariously here.

But we all know and this is something they even mention if you watch the full clip, you can find the link to that in the description of this video, that this is a political ploy by the President. That is what is happening with this. So it’s gonna be interesting to see what happens after the Mid-terms are over. Is the caravan still gonna be front page news? Is it gonna be talked about 24/7? Or is the entire administration gonna say well, that didn’t work so I guess we don’t need to talk about it anymore. On Wednesday, we’re gonna know the answers to all of those questions.
