Donald Trump managed to back a losing candidate in the special Senate election in Alabama TWICE – once with Luther Strange and again with Roy Moore. And the morning after the election, Trump was already Tweeting out excuses as to why he backed a losing candidate with a history of being a sexual predator. But things happened in Alabama that go far beyond Moore’s scandals, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

Transcript:

On Tuesday evening a lot of people in the United States and even people across the planet were actually watching the returns come in from the Alabama special election senate race that was taking place between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones. As I’m sure everybody is aware of by now, Doug Jones won, Roy Moore lost. And, more importantly, for the second time in the last few months, Donald Trump backed a losing candidate in this Alabama senate race. During the primary, he had backed Luther Strange who lost and then he backed Roy Moore in the general who lost.

Now, Donald Trump was very quick on Wednesday morning to finally come out and start offering up some excuses as to why Roy Moore lost that didn’t involve his sexual predation on children. Donald Trump said that the reason he backed Luther Strange over Roy Moore is because he knew Roy Moore wouldn’t be able to win the election against Doug Jones. He knew that. He knew that before any of these allegations against Roy Moore came out. He knew that long before all Doug, excuse me, Roy Moore’s comments about women shouldn’t be allowed in politics or even allowed to vote or that the last time America was great was when we had slavery or that we should get rid of all the amendments to the constitution past number 10. He knew that Roy Moore was just poison for the Republican Party somehow, someway.

Well, here’s the truth. Donald Trump did not know that Roy Moore wouldn’t win that election. Donald Trump is trying to make an excuse for the fact that he continuously is backing political losers in these elections. Let’s not forget he backed Ed Gillespie for governor a few weeks ago and Gillespie lost to a Democrat switching Virginia back over to the Democrats. Donald Trump, his endorsement is essentially poison for political candidates. My advice to Trump is please come out before the 2018 midterms, endorse as many Republican candidates as you can. Please go ahead and throw your support behind people like Paul Ryan, people like Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, Jim Inhofe. Go ahead and just endorse the hell out of everybody. Matt Gaetz from down here in Florida, he’s been prowling around with you recently. Go ahead and throw an endorsement his way, too, because as it stands right now most of the people that you endorse get their asses handed to them in elections.
