It appears that long last, the angry, protesting voice of the people is beginning to pierce the veil of establishment democratic ‘decency’ and draw out a bit of righteous rebellion against Trump from even the most bought Democrats.
This can be concluded because possibly the most entrenched Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, spoke out on Thursday, calling Donald Trump’s ambitious advisor Stephen Bannon a “White Supremacist.”
“It’s a stunning thing, that a white supremacist would be a permanent member of the National Security Council.”
Later in the same conference, Pelosi again brought up Bannon, using the unflattering (but correct) terminology.
“What’s making America less safe is to have a white supremacist named to the National Security Council as a permanent member while the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the director of national intelligence are told, ‘Don’t call us, we’ll call you.'”
Now, there were many other words Pelosi could have used to describe Bannon – after all, there is “alt-right,” “white nationalist,” “Breitbart scumbag,” “waste of space,” “the real president,” – the list goes on and on! But Pelosi chose the most accurate and least politically correct option. In a world run by a man who hates being P.C., Pelosi did the right thing here.
After all, Bannon led Breitbart, an overtly “alt-right” faux-news organization that regularly spouts divisive hate speech and is headed by some of the most deplorable voices. His ex-wife testified that he didn’t want his children to attend a school with a high Jewish population. Bannon has also gone on-record bemoaning the presence of legal immigrants as a source of job issues in the United States and has made it clear that his focus is on citizens – white citizens, mostly.
If you are still unsure whether or not Bannon deserves Pelosi’s name-calling, read this DailyKos report which lists several clear instances in which Bannon defines himself.
That doesn’t mean she hasn’t already received push-back from Republicans. After all, with Bannon calling most of the shots in the White House, he wouldn’t take kindly to one of the main opposition calling them like she sees them.
This is especially true because Trump and other Republicans are depending on Democrats to be too busy trying to lick their wounds and play nice to actually push back at the massive executive overreach
Bannon Trump is exercising.
While that has been the case (mostly) thus far, Pelosi’s strong anti-Bannon statement is encouraging. May it be just the beginning of a new chapter of strong Democrats leading a strong opposition.
