As the nation’s largest ever prison strike enters its third week – activists are demanding an end to another controversial practice: the use of private, for-profit detention centers to hold undocumented immigrants. On Wednesday – a coalition of groups – including Color Of Change – delivered testimonies and 200,000 individual petitions to the Department of Homeland Security calling on it to end the practice once and for all. Some activists even confronted DHS secretary Jeh Johnson and asked him to sign a petition given to him by a Guatemalan woman who’s 20-year-old son has been held in a for-profit detention center for the past 15 months. Joining me now for more on yesterday’s action is Scott Roberts – Senior Campaign Director for Criminal Justice at Color of Change.
