Speaking in New Hampshire, Governor John Kasich told a member of the audience that he will need to “get over” social security cuts, because Kasich says he will be cutting Social Security.

Kasich continued, “We can’t balance a budget without entitlement reform. What are we, kidding?”

Kasich turned on the crowd and asked those in attendance whether they thought it was okay for their welfare checks to be a little smaller if it was for the greater good of the country. When one member responded no, Kasich went off:

Well, you’d get over it, and you’re going to have to get over it. You’re on medicare and you want me to ignore the fact that its going broke. You’re not going to like me. I’d rather have people be in a position where they’re aggravated with me so I can accomplish something, than have them love me and accomplish nothing, okay? I’m not there to run a popularity contest.
