Fundamentalist right-wingers love to use the Bible to justify their hateful, bigoted ways. On the contrary, their lord and savior Jesus Christ spoke out against many things that the Republican party stands for.
Addicting Info compiled a list of Jesus’ words to illustrate just how hypocritical conservative Christians are.
Republicans support cutting state and federal assistance from needy families. Jesus believed that we should help others.
Luke 6: 20-21
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.
“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
Republicans put money and wealth above all else. Jesus spoke out against the obsessive pursuit of material possessions and money.
Luke 12: 32-34
32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Republicans are only concerned with the success of the successful and leave the less-fortunate behind hungry, broke, and without help. Jesus believed that all people were the same and decried greed.
Acts 20: 35
35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Luke 21: 1-4
21 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, 2 and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Jesus was all-inclusive. He didn’t believe that people should be segregated, but rather everyone is similar in the eyes of God. Republicans celebrate the upper-class and elitist attitudes.
Mark 12: 31
31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
John 13: 34
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
Jesus also spoke out against the single worst thing that makes Christian conservatives unbearable: obnoxious outward displays of faith.
Matthew 6: 5-6
5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Christian Republicans have taken Jesus’ teachings of compassion, love, and acceptance and completely forgotten them. They instead use the Bible to discriminate against gays and deny climate change. They don’t care about the religion, they only care about the votes that religion can deliver.
